perryton, tx | The most common reason is little or no groundwater underneath it. The section in my picture has at best enough to water cattle. Meanwhile just a few miles to the west they can pump 1000 gallons per minute. The depth of the aquifer varies greatly, no different than any surface body of water. Also a good percentage of the land in our county is rough pastureland not suited for farming.
