Jackson County, AL

If we could bank our extra this year so far we could make perfect crops the next two years easily.  Still time to go the other way.  Barely got corn planted in April in '22 but thought we had the world by the tail for getting it done early enough, based on average years, to beat the heat and dry weather later.  Turned off dry and over half our crop had poor pollination with large areas in fields having a big fat 0.  Planted Wednesday through Friday for the first time since April 29 and woke up to rain this morning with more on the way this coming week.  We've seen both extremes and neither is ideal but I'll take too much water over too little any day.  Two weeks without rain is a drought here and crops start going the other way very fast.  Areas with deeper topsoil may say different but wet years pay more bills than dry ones here.
