West Central Indiana | The purple comes from the genetics. I remember someone telling me it’s the drought tolerance showing itself early if under some form of stress. Too cool of temps, lack of moisture or too much has caused purpling on some hybrids more than others early on. It seems to show up more on Qrome hybrids more than Am.
It did concern me years ago, but now I take it as a sign of high yield. I had a 110 day that would always purple up, but was always my best corn. | |
