I quit milo 20 years ago for the reasons you mentioned. Plus I can harvest corn in damper conditions instead of milo.
I’m quite aways north of you and think nothing of continuing to plant corn until mid June. Like to be done before the 10th. We almost routinely plant well into the first week of June and stay with our normal maturities of 110-112 day corn.
