We grew giant pumpkins for kids fair last year. 1st thing is you need giant pumpkin seeds. I had a corner of the garden I dumped chicken litter on through the winter and rototilled in springtime. They need a fairly large area for the vines to spread out. Once the pumpkins start growing you pick one and cull the rest. Slid a piece of plywood under it and some sand under the pumpkin. Keep an eye on how it grows, the pumpkin can snap itself off the vine if not positioned well. If you bury parts of the vine they throw down roots and suck up more nutrients. Wife would mix up some miracle grow and dump it at the main root once a week. Kept it watered well but don't want it to get diseased being wet all the time. I thought they did pretty good for our first go. This year we started them earlier in the house so they have a head start. The orange one was over 150 that was fertilized season long. The 140 lighter one was the backup we didn't fertilize other than the litter.
