Absolutely. Anybody can get good with any particular setup. Sounds like he's a Zen Master with a 2+2!
I hardly ever look back when cultivating contours. When I was a kid, Dad mounted mirrors over the row behind the front axle, for cultivating in terraces. Eventually they are hardly needed/useful after lots of acres.
