If it works for you awesome. I’m brand new to the cattle and hay game so trying to learn. What I’ve learned is tons per acre is what drives profitably as fixed costs are more or less the same. Would silage on some acres then short season peas/wheat/buckwheat/silage/etc grain crop followed by a cover crop that gets baled/grazed work better? Sounds like your ground is sitting “idle” for ~10 months out of the year, would try to utilize it more somehow. Guys down south in other rainfall limited areas seem to get it done somehow.

Cows on crop land work/pencil much easier using them as value added (grazing residue) vs making them pay for it all
