Around here I’d say turkeys or 13 stripe ground squirrels. Since you say it is next to prairie grass, I’d say the ground squirrels, if you have them there. Here they move into the field from waterways and roadside grass.

ETA- have had some success scattering corn on top of the ground in the outside rows of the field so they have something to eat before they dig up the corn you planted.
