Central Indiana | Anything with disc blades is going to compact unless it’s bone dry. Sure they do everything else but get weeds. They are a leveling and sizing tool but not a dirt turning tool. They make the ground washboardy underneath even though the surface looks smooth as a table top. No such thing as less compaction from a disc or field cultivator with a VT tool. Difference is the compact is isolated to the top 3” where most VTs are ran. Discs might be as deep as 6-7” compaction zone and field cultivators up to 4”. We had a landoll 7431 for 7 years and it made the ground level but I can tell you it did indeed leave a compaction layer. If your ground is grid tiled probably won’t matter but if you have wet spots and compaction prone ground you better steer clear or park it until its so dusty you can’t see behind you | |
