Southern Illinois | Id prefer to plant green and not terminating the cover until after the soybeans have emerged. Roll the cover down when soybeans are V2-V3. This leaves the cover there for slugs to keep feeding on. Once the soybeans are bigger they can tolerate feeding better. It's when the cotyledons come out when they're most vulnerable to slug damage. I've seen no yield loss doing this as well but I also havent compared a true side by side, just been happy with yields. Our area receives adequate rainfall so this practice isn't recommended in more drought limited environments. | |
