We put on the zidua after planting because we believe that the soil movement caused by the planter will cause gaps in the zidua coverage. We have tried to do the paraquat after planting but if it is done right after planting some weeds will be protected by being covered with soil. We have also tried spraying the paraquat 3 days after planting with good success on a limited number of runs, problem with this is if it rains or there is equipment problems, soybeans will be coming up on the fourth day. I have wondered if adding some dicamba or 2-4D with the paraquat after planting would help kill the covered up weeds since those chemicals have the ability to move around some after application.
