It is nearly invincible, alive since the age of the dinosaurs. Kill it by draining your soil. Universities have also put out guides on chemical control for Field Horsetail (possibly Sedgehammer), which is very difficult to achieve.
Yes I've found out it's invincible. Can't fix drainage as it's on the tops of 2 hills. Probably the driest parts of the field.
While it does tend to favor wetter soils, I can take you to that weed growing along a gravel road shoulder, i.e. next to a ditch. How can you drain better than that?
Equisetum. There are two varieties, one like yours what I describe as little pine trees, and then one tall and slender, looks like green onions. That one is also called scouring rush.
There is a product, starts with a P, that will kill it. It also kills anything else for like 5 years, which, when your infestation gets bad enough, is about the same effect.
Edit: Maybe the product is Telar, like another poster suggested. Can't recall right now.
