Subject: RE: Not flow meter. Still not working with new raven meter.

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
If using a Raven flow meter (and most other brands as well), three wires are involved: 1) constant ground 2) constant power (5V-16V with a modern Raven flow meter) and 3) signal wire.

Since a new flow meter should be assumed to be good, I would guess the problem is one of the following: 1) a wiring problem where constant ground, constant power or the signal wires are not connected correctly. 2) no meter cal has been entered (use a small meter cal for testing purposes since the system divides by the meter cal) 3) the Field IQ is not in a spray mode (Master ON, auto swath OFF, non-zero target rate etc.)

You have tested the harness from Field IQ that connects to the Raven flow meter. If you hold the connector so that the notch is at the top, the pin on the bottom is the signal wire. Put the red probe of your meter on that pin. If you put the black probe on one of the other pins you should see 5-12V. If you put the black probe on the other pin you should see 0 volts.

Grab a pen & paper. Make a drawing of the connector with the notch and the three pins. The bottom one will be the signal wire. The one that showed 5-12 volts must be ground. Write down those words on your drawing. By process of elimination the remaining pin must be constant "hot". Write that down.

Now you can do various voltage tests. Power to ground should be a constant5-12 volts. Signal to ground should also show 5-12 volts (because of the pull-up resistor). If you would short out the signal pin to the ground pin, you could recreate a pulse which should cause the total volume to increase.

If this does not happen, it may be due to an incorrect setting in Field IQ. Settings such as Auto Swath off, Target rate set to 0, implement switches etc. may be informing Field IQ not to acknowledge the action from the flow meter.

This may lead to knowledge that will allow you to use the MidTech flow meter with Field IQ.
