I remember drilling beans with an old 30' Great Plains and the goal was to strike a good average. Bury some, plant some about right and scatter a few on top. Average was precisely 1.32". Of course you had to drop 200,000 to get an 80,000 stand and then you had to replant all of the 30,000 stands.
