Subject: All things Barley

Hello I am considering changing a large portion of my acres to barley next year. I am in Oklahoma and familiar with HRWW but never really raised barley. There is a feedlot reasonably close that will buy all I can raise as beef cattle feed for a nice price. My questions are how does it differ from HRWW if any in terms of fertilizer, disease pressure, and harvest. does it need to be laid down or direct cut is the norm? Also are there 1000s of different varieties just like wheat or is it much smaller pool? Just wondering that out of curiosity as the feedlot will supply me with seed of the variety they like to feed. Finally on yield how does it compare to wheat. The feedlot man says it will yield 1.5X barley but I have my doubts on that. Any other info/advice appreciated. thanks
