One difference between solar and wind is, solar does not infringe on your neighbor's land. A wind turbine 100 feet from your neighbors fence means now your neighbor cannot build anything on his property for at least 1/4 mile (depending on zoning) or possibly up to half a mile. Since quarters are half a mile wide you have taken your neighbors rights to build away from him. What if you are the neighbor? Do you want your neighbor telling you what you can/cannot do on your property? Both are a scam on the taxpayer so anyone who takes money from one is just taking tax dollars from us all.

This is an ignorant and uneducated response and seems to be out of anger. In MN there are 5x3 setback laws and 1400 ft from homes to adhear to. I'm not sure what SD laws are, but if Neighbor A gets a wind tower, and Neighbor B says they don't want to sign up for wind rights - the tower needs to be at least 3 blade lengths away from the property line east and west, and 5 blade lengths north and south. Now if neighbor B signs up for wind rights the tower can be placed 1 foot across the property line and a road can be built across neighbor B's land to access the tower on Neighbor A's property and Neighbor B only gets the wind right check. There are setback laws for towers from building sites because if one of them falls down, not only do they tip over, but the blades can blow up and send shards flying. If neighbor B doesn't want a tower, or wind rights they have the right to do whatever they wish to their land.

I'd be curious if you take crop insurance or sign up for the farm programs? Or sell your corn to an elevator who does business with an ethanol plant.
