We had a good bit on a farm a few years ago.  It was at least a foot taller at harvest so with the cutter bar and reel set for the wheat it knocked the rye heads on the ground as they were cut.  Never saw a head make it in the header and seemed to be a non-issue.

To know I still can't figure out exactly how you accomplish this. But I have had times where this would have come handy
