Now that you've killed off your cover crop.... what's your plan going forward?

What will the next crop be?   How soon before you plan or hope to plant your next crop?

I have no experience with a cover crop as thick and flush as you show in your pictures.  So looking at the photos, leads me to fears that I would have a lot of trouble getting the next crop planted into vegetation that thick.

I only plant a cover crop after wheat. I trade my straw for manure. After that I lime if needed, puck stones (always needed) and whatever else I need to do. I spread wheat screenings, vetch and raddish along with my potash. I scratch it in with a field cultivator and cultipacker and then shoot a nice buck over it. It really does a nice job of no wind erosion. I have no hills. Now, getting to your question. I kill it now. I will plant directly into the dead cover with a jd air seeder. The crop is soybeans (always). I've had very good luck doing this. All this ground is heavy clay and tiled very well. I'd like to up my yield with soys a little if I can but haven't found my agronomic issue yet. I always have manganese issues and spray usually 2 times. I know I have iron chlorosis issues and probably will try some soy green this year if I can afford it. I tried some iron from nutrien last year but it plugged my sprayer up like cement. This system has worked well for me for the last 15 years, but like all of us, I'm always looking for a better mousetrap. I will no til soys into this cover and then next year corn with conventional tillage. I'll plant in the next 2 weeks. It will get pretty Krispy by then. It's wet out there now. I plant with and 1890 jd. No til air seeder.
