Should be able to pull the top leaf out the the whirl sort of like corn if it has one and if it is dying brown around the base where you pull it out it will die. At least that’s what local spray company said when we asked the same question about grass in soybeans. Grass looked green and unfazed but the whorl was dead in the center. Took another week for it to all turn yellow
