Weed control is vital, as others have said. Everything has to be dead prior to planting, and you want a heavy layer of residual down after planting.
I don't think you're supposed to chase the planter with six ounces of callisto according to the label, but that's what the lexar label is for. Plan on maxing out the atrazine label.
Don't short the nutrients. You want sulfur. Higher phosphorus and zinc levels help with crop maturation and drydown. That matters. If your soil tests aren't up there, then you need to apply both. Split-applying N can help with lodging, and there are micronutrient strategies to play around with. email me if you want to discuss them.
You're north of me, I'd say to plant as soon as soil temperature is above 50 degrees. 1.5-2" depth is good. It'll come up nice and uniform unless the soil is too cold. |
