Central Iowa | Is it fair to compare construction/earth moving business to farming today? The equipment that sits on I35 between Dsm and Ames is astonishing and likley overkill. I'm sure they are more efficient than we farmers are but between rain/winter/ project delays that stuff sure sits a lot.
I can plant 15% of my crop on my best days. More likely 10% on average with a little rain and breakdowns. Some days I think I need to be able to cover a bit more to hit optimum planting windows.
I still agree in general we have a lot of extra capacity but it's nice to have when needed.
