Subject: RE: Is it to cold to plant?

Near-north Ontario, French River
Its in books, and its a hard learned lesson in reality... its called cold water inhibition. Years ago we planted corn April 15-17, perfect conditions, warm soils.. on april 18 we got 7 inches of snow. It melted fast but the corn planted on the 16-17 had maybe 5% emergence, the stuff planted april 15 was hurt but was still probably 85-90% emergence and outyield corn that was planted 2 weeks later in good conditions. Soys are the same, a nice warm rain will give freshly planted beans a boost, a cold rain/melting snow will shock the seed and severely impede them.
