A book that may help you with the comparison of the sandier soils would be the soft cover Soil Survey of (insert your county), Indiana.
Here is a photo of the one I used before Web Soil came online.

edit to add - I believe this book was given to me from my soil and water office.
Yep, got a stack of these collecting dust at home. It's all online now too on web soil survey. Also UC Davis did or does host a similar site/database. Not sure how big of an area you can search though.
