Subject: RE: What is the future of Dicambia

Jackson County, AL

As has been said the standard has always been supply on hand can be used up but sales either stopped or manufacture stopped.  Even DDT was allowed to be used till supply was exhausted.  We had prepaid for our bean seed but hadn't decided on XtendFlex or Enlist yet when the initial ruling came down, so we decided immediately to go with Enlist.  Before the next ruling came down extending the label for this season we got a visit from our Bayer reps who were hoping to sway us into staying with Xtend technology.  We explained our position and reasoning and essentially said we were avoiding the headache and keeping options open to control mares tail and pigweed escapes.  Based on that visit and what I've read it looks like Bayer should be scrambling for answers.  They have been promising their 5-way bean for a while and one of the pieces is looking like it will be useless.  After all the weeping and gnashing of teeth over Dicamba, their commitment to it, and the Enlist tech enjoying little to no bad PR it would seem they are about ready to jump off a cliff.  All that said, we had good luck with the new Dicamba and our area had no issues that I'm aware of.  Boomless sprayers applying 2-4D on pastures is the major cause of drift problems here.
