Subject: RE: Row Cleaners and Yield Difference?

West Central Illinois
As others have said, I know we get better seed soil contact with cleaners and more uniform seed depth since the row cleaners knock off bumps and ridges left by the strip till units.
And in pure notill beans into stalks we run them lightly to clear most, if not all, heavier stalks aside.
You can test this yourself: Plant with your coulters. Count how many seeds are hair pinned in residue or not even in the soil. How much seed did you throw away? What did it cost?
And that’s not counting any yield reduction from imperfect stands.
