Subject: RE: Rain, oats, rye, milling

Iowa - Floyd County
My aerial seeded cereal rye has looked like garbage until this past weekend of 80 degrees and some rain, looks great now. Last year it never looked good even up until termination in the spring. For me I think it was more lack of moisture than residue cover. Both years flown on in mid September. We did have 115 acres drilled into cornstalks last Fall around mid October, first time we have seeded cover crop that way. It came up fast and has looked great since last Fall. If the custom seeders can get my acres covered it's going to be hard to turn that down versus aerial seeded judging by the way stuff looks this Spring.

I hope the mill project is successful for you, heard you talk about it a little at Sponheim's meeting earlier this Spring. I'd love to get to a three crop rotation, hopefully will be able to accomplish that in the next few years.
