Subject: Interesting discussion with an agronomist - Lime making your black soil "Lighter"

Around here (NW Iowa), the best soils are darker silty clay loam, the worst are lighter yellowish calcium carbonate rich silty loam. My agronomist friend stated that the best soils in Sioux County Iowa are slowly becoming Calcium carbonate rich lighter soils because the maunure application is requiring so much Lime and calcium application. Made me scratch my head. Seeking input from soil gurus. I thought this was an interesting comment, but probably an exaggeration?
