Hey Ron,

To your first question, my claim that it is working stems from our average yields climbing at a pretty rapid pace and our average seeding rate is not. Most fields average in the upper 20’s and we used to plant 24-26K for 120-150 bushel yields.

APH when I started VR planting corn was around 130…we are now in the 170’s. Some of that increase is undoubtedly weather related, some is from better fertility management and yet more is from no-till…have we done flat rate tests…no, but plan to this year. Hopefully the results confirm my theory, but time will tell.

Is it easy to do? I think so provided you have the yield maps loaded into command center already. It’s a little tricky getting them onto a thumb drive to transfer to each display…JD Link makes it easier I hear but I don’t have that service.

To me, VR planting based on actual yield history just makes sense to my math based brain. How much of the increase it’s responsible for I cannot say for sure.
