Base it on realistic yield goals/actual yield. 6-6.5bu/1k is a good starting point. I’ve talked to very few people who actually have some kind of reasoning behind their seeding RX maps besides basing on theirs and the neighbors past seeding rates. Fair amount of people “here” back off to 28-30k over the sand ridges that yield nubbins-50bu/ac. Then their jaw hits the floor when I tell them I plant 15k in those spots and am planting to thick yet.
