| We did some rental acres last fall on '50s. My family has rented this farm since 1947 so have a good relationship with the owner but we did get a prorated contract on it in case something should happen. My uncle was a firm believer in tiling, had some put in as far back as in the late '30s but was mostly "here & there". First tile I put in was the late '70s. Practicethen was put in deep so it would draw farther. 5" 4-6' deep on 100' spacing. Bulk of the laterals we have abandoned though or used as submaiins. A couple areas we split with 4" & one 5-6 acre area we split with two 4" laterals. Bulk of my soils are Sable & Ipava silt loams, both poorly drained, especially the Sable so tiling will pay for itself fairly quickly.. The Sable especially responds favorably to the 25- 30 spacing.
