Buddy just did 50 acres of all 3 inch on 30' into three 8 inch mains. Guess we'll see, they say an inch for every 10', but for the cost, it was a lot less than 4". They really put in a lot of 3 on 30's.

3 8" mains for 50 acres? I would have worried about the cost of that, not the difference of 3 to 4. Or did you mean the guy used 8 as the size of his main (which is still overkill).


8" pipe on 0.1% grade is good for 1/2" DC on 15 acres, so three 8" mains sounds good for 50 acres to me.

I think I might be confused. He said it's 50 acres. The 3 mains of 8" is probably due to the layout of the field so I'm thinking that there are 3 different sections of the field that needed it's own main due to hills etc. For 10 acres, one six inch main would easily handle the job.
