Central Illinois | Over the years I have started to apply 100lbs of AMS on my cereal rye 3-4 weeks before planting soybeans. The rye definitely greens up and starts to take off within a week of application. I plant green and usually let the rye continue to grow until it is 10-13" tall before termination. The rye residue doesn't start to decompose until late June or early July. Whatever nitrogen and sulfur isn't used by the rye is utilized by the soybeans. I have never tried this with rye ahead of corn, but it seems to help the soybeans.
