| I’m a young guy just getting started farming in the last couple years. I’ve got cattle, with limited land currently.
I am wanting to get started with some crops and am gonna start picking up some more equipment over the next year or so.
It’s gonna be tough finding and getting ground rented, so I would like to start working on that now so that when I have equipment next year I can hit the ground running. I’ve had a couple opportunities recently to rent a couple fields but having no equipment there’s not much I can do with it this year.
That said, I’m looking for advice. Would it work to get these fields under lease and then sublease to another farmer until I am ready to farm it myself? Could I do some sort of crop share? Or I am open to any other ideas and am curious to hear others thoughts. Would just like a way, if possible, to get the ground “in my name” without having to fork over a bunch of cash to hire it all custom this year.
TIA
