Central Indiana | Have 3-4 acres of farm ground next to the farm that was pasture up until 10 years ago when we ripped it up and started farming it. We like to hunt and enjoy nature and recently lost rented ground to Becks Hybrids that we were able to hunt on right next to where we farm and live. Becks will of course tear out the 20 some acres of woods and farm it in coming years so we want to create a little area of our own to enjoy for future generations.
Toying with the idea of planting several trees and digging a pond in this 3-4 acres of ground. The ground isn’t the best drained but is very nice farm ground otherwise. So questions and concerns I have about CRP programs:
How much will they help out on reforestation costs?
Any concerns with buffers or other headaches that should be aware of?
Does the government have a say what can or can’t be done on the land for personal usage I.e. hunting, fishing, etc?
How hard is it to get out of a program provided some reason it needs to be taken out?
Any other issues or thought we need to be aware of? | |
