Scottville, 49454 Northwest Michigan | Typically, lime with higher levels of calcium, relative to magnesium... is called "Hi-Cal lime". And lime with a higher percentage of magnesium is called, "dolomitic lime". At least that is the way it is in my "world". To the best of my knowledge... all limes will have some calcium, and some magnesium.
Not all limes are the same. There will be differences even within dolomitic or within Hi-Cal limes. That's why we feel it is important to have each source of lime tested. Typically, most suppliers of lime have analysis's available to review for the lime they sell. Personally, we like to grab a representative lime sample to have tested ourselves. It's not that expensive... especially when considering how much the influence of those tests can have on the profitability of our lime applications. Something to consider.
