NWMO | I don’t have any trials/side by side, but what I do have is crop scouting knowledge. I look for S deficiency when I scout in the summer and I know that where I see it it seems the top end isn’t there come harvest time. Takes 30 lb/ac S to make 200 bu corn (roughly). So, if you have 3.5% OM you receive roughly 10.5 lb/ac S from that, and that’s throughout the entire season, not just when you need it.
We like to put out about 80% of S needs before V6 and have had good luck with that. Good S on tissue samples and no signs in the field when scouting. There are those who say they don’t put on any S at all and get away with it, but S is cheap enough that idk why to be stingy when you’re already making passes for other things like planting/pre plant spray/top dress/side dress.
It takes 45 lb/ac S to make 300 bu/ac corn. Ask those guys if they apply S and all of them will say absolutely | |
