| For AI nozzles, some work 'OK' better than others. Generally as a rule of thumb it is no-AI nozzles on a PWM sprayer.
Effectively, what ends up happening is the pulsing every 10th of a second interrupts the actual air induction process, which at the worst case can actually end up with backflow squirting OUT of the AI port.
All in all, the findings were that the distribution of spray out of the nozzle was effected, and such wasn't recommended.
Again, I work with Wilger, so gotta take it with a grain of salt for sure, but the AI nozzles that have been 'OK'd' by the company with PWM often come with a clause similar to a 'X finds the spray distribution is sufficient to be used as a spray nozzle when paired with a PWM spray system', so its not saying it works well with PWM, it is often saying only the distribution of spray is still within acceptable levels.
A few tweets from a while ago with some visual distribution and recommendations from a while ago. Might be useful.
Not sure how they show up if you click the link though:

A few of those nozzles show the "OK'd by teejet techs" nozzles as well, so it'd give you a good idea of what it'd visually look like at the pattern at least.
There'd be newer non-AI nozzles that'd be finer than the TTI sort of spray. For Wilger parts, it'd be in line with the MR series or DR series (DR gets closer to TTI though). The SR series is around in around finer than the AIXR, which might be ok as well. Again, with a Wilger nozzle, it'd be adding the little quick-turn adapter to fit direct to ExactApply.
As far as non-Wilger nozzles, there'd still be nozzles like the LDM (might be a tad coarser than the AIXR) or greenleaf made a few of the AI nozzles but with the AI port plugged off so it works for PWM. Teejet doesn't really have anything inbetween that the AIXR and TTI that is PWM-oK, but there'd be a few that fit right on a Deere without an adapter.
Anyways, if you give the jist of what you'd be looking for for rates, sometimes you might end up using a finer nozzle series than you'd think, as the pressure drop once you get up in nozzle size with a PWM system will naturally make stuff coarser as well. | |
