To remove tarnish from silver, heat some water to boiling, pour into a aluminum, plastic , ceramic, or glass container that has aluminum foil covering the bottom. If you use an aluminum pan, you can skip using aluminum foil. I like a glass cake pan shape. Add some baking soda. It probably will foam, so dribble it in. Lay the silver pieces in. Watch the tarnish disappear. With coins, you might have to turn them over. Sulfur, which in a chemical reaction had caused the tarnish, will be freed, You will be able to smell it, and maybe see some flakes form. This is a reversal of the chemical reaction that caused the tarnish. No silver is lost. This works on anything made of silver or silver plated.
