Subject: Capacitors

Central Alberta
A retired friend of mine makes extra money by fixing old electronics and reselling them. He says about 90% of the time all he has to do is replace capacitors. He uses long-life capacitors that should last a lifetime. I assumed that long-life capacitors must be too expensive to include in most consumer electronics, which is why they use the cheaper ones. But my friend says there's not much difference in price. He can buy the good capacitors for just a few cents more than the cheaper ones. Electronics never used to fail this much. Are these short-life capacitors a new thing?
