Yes. It ruined the deck plates. We put round stock on the end of the deck plate, but the non-smooth surface cause excessive buttshelling. I'm sure the header loss that season was more than the cost of new deck plates. I put calmer plates on it the following season and the problem went way.
Pointing a welder at deck plates is a good way to save cents to cost dollars.
