Subject: RE: John Deere 510 disk ripper

Central iowa
Dad has loves his 510. 510 has different angle( believe little more angle) on disk blades which many say 512 is easier to set and doesn't leave as much trash trail on outer ends. 512 has ripper is set more of a v pattern and back shanks are behind the wheels and is more balanced. The leveling mechanism is totally different ..512 has wheel pivots to go over things better and helps keep ripping more uniform. later 512 have factory braces where normally crack( main crack is in front of or behind lift cylinder bracket on main fraim) and have shin guards( for wear on shank)......dads shanks ( 510) are showing alot of wear but thought of installing shovels on shanks to save them but I baught a 512 pre fall but didn't use it.. mine is a 2012 with shin/ knee guards and the factory braces but that being said dad's ripper didn't have a weld on it until ripped when it was frosty few years ago than it cracked few main fraim corner welds so it got gussets..
