NW Washington | The Cross-Slot will seed into much more residue and it will not "hairpin" or tuck residue into the seed slot. You will get excellent seed placement with little or no sidewall compaction. Addtionally, the seed slot will be closed which is sometimes not the case with single disc drills like JD and CIH. And you can apply most if not all the fertilizer needed for a cereal crop at the same time as you seed without the need for additionally openers or coulters. The biggest downside of the Cross-Slot is its initial cost and the fact that it does not pull as easy as the other drills. Getting parts from New Zealand could be a drag too. | |
