NvDave's comment about 270 and 30-06 are instructive in another way. They are complementary cartridges. After one graduated from the old winchester 94 in 30-30, there was always the 30-06 in a more accurate bolt for wood cover deer, moose or elk. Out on the plains, a 270 would reach out 400yds and take down those pronghorn speed demons.

Also good for coyotes that thought they were out of range and for varmit shootin.

A 700 is as good as you can get, but a 30-06 or 270 in other than an old and scratched model 70 is just an imitation.

Just enjoy whatever you buy.
