Our old house seemed to have incredilbly small pipes, like 3/8 inch. Flow seemed fine for sinks and showers, and the hot water got there very fast. Now our new house, bigger pipes, and we're back to the typical wait for hot water.

In replumbing our house, my Dad made sure I plumbed the hots in 1/2" size instead of 3/4" for this reason. 1/2" flows fine for bathroom usage.

1" from well to pressure tank. 3/4" cold trunk line through house, with 1/2" single use branch lines. 3/4" cold supply to hot water heater. 3/4" hot trunk to kitchen and laundry. 1/2" hot trunk to bathrooms.
