I don’t know the answer. However, before you do anything that could have a chance of erasing the pics I would look up apple support online and contact them and explain the situation. Most of the people you talk to in a store won’t have much authority and have to suggest and follow store policy. Online apple support might have more authority to help you and if not they should be able to direct you to someone higher in the chain of command. You may even have to talk to their legal department. I have had several instances where something I was told was impossible was actually easy to do by people higher in command. I suspect that the technical issues could be overcome but maybe privacy laws might come into play. I would expect, however, that the person handling your son’s legal affairs would have the authority to obtain the pictures. I wouldn’t just accept any negative answer too fast though.
