nw NC | As others have said, never discard them . You may never need them, but you never know that sometime they will be important to have to provide proof of something very important. I still have all receipts and income tax returns from the early 1970's. They are stored in boxes on shelves in my basement. Glad I have them.
There is a settlement of a class action lawsuit going on right now regarding milk pricing from 2002 through April 2007. I have statements as proof showing the amount of milk that we shipped in that time period. I just this week spoke with someone from DFA ( Dairy Farmers of America) office regarding the issue. He said that he had several calls from former dairymen that were trying to find proof of how much milk they had shipped during that period. He said DFA had purged their computers of records from that time period so they were of no help to the dairymen.
