Central/Northeast Missouri | Started renting land when I was 19. I am 21 now with two crops under my belt (I am a newbie), but I have been helping local farmers out since I could walk. No one in my family farms so it's been a pretty uphill battle.
I started last year renting 6 acres from a friend and using my boss at the times farm equipment.
For this spring I bought (courtesy of the bank) a 1066 and 6 row planter. I planted 120 acres - 40 acres corn/ 65 acres soybeans/ 15 acres popcorn.
Currently marketing the popcorn myself and taking a beating on the corn and beans.
I have one year left at Mizzou then I'll be graduated and hopefully by then I'm in a position where I can start saving some money to buy dirt.
It's nice being young with no wife or a house payment, I can live pretty cheap.
