Subject: RE: The Future

The base vehicle is 3m long (roughly 10'), and does the planting.

So, we will replace my 4760 and 1990CCS (40') that plants 5.5 mph with a few devices the size of a gator. I won't own these, I will rent them from the PhDs. How many will I need? Plus the person across the road? And the county?

Just the logistics in getting a massive number of smaller machines to replace a few large machines gets out of hand very quickly. We see different farming methods in Europe where road transport rules are different. Certainly smaller tractors at a higher speed can accomplish the area per hour number, to a point. But the management of all those individual machines will become the primary challenge, not the cost of that big dumb old tractor.

Most of the truly magnificent farming failures happen when big operations run too thin on intelligent management and organization. Can you imagine looking after a fleet of 50 gator sized robotic seeders?
