Tuscola, IL | Similar to all the above, but we don’t have scales. A lot of times we will fill the cart as a way to keep from over-filling the truck. We know that every kernel on the cart will fit in the truck and it won’t be over loaded. We could overfill the truck by 100 bushels if we tried, but by filling the cart first we know there will be 600 bushels plus or minus about 20 on the truck. Not crucial by any means, and we can pretty easily tell where the truck should be filled to, but typically we have 1/3 to 2/3 of a cart loaded after opening a field. So from there we will load the cart the rest of the way and anything left over will go on the cart after it dumps on the truck. We don’t unload on the go and just use the cart to keep the truck and combine rolling. For what it’s worth, I can’t tell any noticeable difference between grain that has come from the cart or directly from the combine. I’m sure there is a little more damage, but we’ve never been docked for either. | |
