NE ND | My friends dad had an 1482 pull type combine hooked to 8630 john deere. I drove by 10:30 pm on my way home and tractor was just sitting there in the dark with no lights on at an idle with the combine in gear. No trucks, no pickup, no one around (this was before cell phones, mid 80's I would guess). I got nervous that maybe he had an accident and had got caught in it. I drove around the machine with my pick up headlights on hoping not to see any evidence of an accident. I saw nothing and heard nothing so headed home to call my friend. When I asked him if everything was ok he laughed and said "ya, something seized up on the pto and its stuck in gear. We only have a day left of harvest and don't dare shut tractor off in fear it won't engage again. Dad said to just let it sit there and run all night at an idle."
